The Civic Threshold

Cultural Pavilion — Competition Winner, 2025

01Concept

A civic threshold — the idea that a public building's ground floor should belong to the street before it belongs to the institution.

PUBLIC THRESHOLD
02Plan

A single continuous white volume, column-free, so the ground floor can be reconfigured by whoever runs the building next.

03Section

Daylight pulled two storeys down through a stepped void at the building's core, lighting the gallery without a single skylight.

04Built

Completed 2025. Exposed concrete left unfinished on purpose — the building reads the same from inside and out.

The Studio

We design at the edge, on purpose.

KERB was founded in 2015 on the idea that the most interesting part of any building is where it meets everything else — the street, the neighbor, the sky. We design that edge first.

The studio works across towers, public buildings, and adaptive reuse, usually all three at once, with a small team that stays on every project from first sketch to snagging list.

“Good buildings don't announce themselves. They just make the street work better than it did before.”
